Camping Ottenstein

This place was really great. We camped on the peninsula and had a great couple days. The staff was friendly and helpful. The individual sites have a bit more space than we've found elsewhere so you get a bit more privacy. There is plenty of shade and spots to relax. I would not forget bug spray and citronella candles to keep the mosquitos away.

I really enjoyed the location and the quitness of the place but the restaurant itself is a pure disaster and it deserves only one star. The only good thing about it is a pretty good food, price and the nice decoration. If they keep operating like this they can just close down right now before they care away their guests permanently and inspection gets called in. The vibe I got about this place is that the workers all extremely unhappy and frustrated and they openly fought with each other before guests when things got wrong (for example they thought the orders were cancelled but in the reality they should have gone to another table outside). My impression was that there must be at least one person bullying others and that the staff members are taking frustrations on each other. In my opinion it has to do more with the managment itself, lack of proper training und not only with incompetent and unexperienced coworkers. Everybody normal would have left these work conditions after one work shift and I am sure many have done as already in the last few months

We came to eat at 20 o clock. The let us order drink, then they say the kitchen is closed.The kitchen normally close at 21.30.then after 10 minutes the service guy come and say we going home do you want another drink and pay me?we are at the middle of nowhere without food and angry. The worst place for eat and drink unorganized and not friendly people. Also the guy in reception was speaking like we was their enemy. One star because of the beautiful place!

The camping grounds are truly idyllic! The lake and surrounding woodland areas are out of a fairytale. We stayed on the peninsula, where every small area for rent is surrounded by little trees and raspberry bushes - we were unfortunate enough to have stayed exactly at raspberry-time so we could enjoy loads of freshly picked berries whenever, wherever! The staff is rather friendly and helpful. There is a restaurant and the option to rent a boat or SUP, too. The bathroom area could be better: It is not always clean and one has to pay 0.50€ to take a shower on top of the fee payed for the rented area, which I find unnecessary and impractical. We came without a car, meaning with public transport - it was quite an adventure... You need ages to get anywhere without a car. Concluding, there remain areas that need improvement, however overall it is a nice camping cite surround by heavenly nature. My biggest issue were the washing rooms.

The only thing going for this camping ground is the location on the beautiful (artificial but beautiful anyway) lake. The owners are anything but friendly, they charge money for the tent, for each person sleeping in it, for any guests coming over during the day and on top of that for the showers. You can rent out kayaks, kanus, paddle boards (SUP) etc, but most of the equipment is kind of old and I'm any case far from top notch. Also, the places for tents are anything but beautiful. Some of them do have a view of the lake, but all of them are surrounded by ugly overgrowth, which is also littered at random places. All would be forgiven if the owners/staff were at least friendly. But they're not. Especially the lady of the house. She'll happily let you stand in front of her like an idiot for 10 minutes while she finishes her jotting down random notes (true event). Stay away.
